Annual startup pitch competition

Will This Float? is an annual business pitch competition that showcases up-and-coming startup ideas in southeast Tennessee. This fast-paced event is often the first moment in the limelight for participating entrepreneurs. Each contestant gets three minutes to pitch his or her startup idea to before a panel of judges and an audience of local startup leaders, general attendees, and potential mentors and business partners. At the end of the evening, the winning entrepreneurs receive a cash prize and package of free business services to take their startup ideas to the next level.

Annual business launching competition

48Hour Launch is an annual startup development competition designed to inspire entrepreneurial action in southeast Tennessee. The weekend-long program challenges teams of entrepreneurs and business specialists to spend 48 hours transforming a startup concept into a viable business model or prototype. The experience culminates with a Demo Night, where participants debut their work to the public and a panel of judges. At the end of the event, the top scoring startups receive cash prizes and packages of free business services to support their continuing development.

Youth entrepreneurship workshop

24Hour Generator is designed to inspire high school girls to develop the vision, enthusiasm, and tenacity needed to become entrepreneurs.

Drawing a diverse group of girls together from across southeast Tennessee, this overnight event provides a platform for young women to combine their talents while working to solve real problems in business and the community. Participants leave the experience with the relationships, insights, and tools needed to move entrepreneurial ideas into action.

Experience Talks

Experience Talks is a speaker series that provides emerging entrepreneurs with firsthand business knowledge from other successful founders. Each installment is designed to foster strategic connections among established business owners and rising founders who are working to move their companies forward. Experience Talks is sponsored by Cornerstone Community Bank and hosted by the Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC) and The Company Lab (CO.LAB).

Talk Shop Tuesday

Every week at the Edney Innovation Center, we host Talk Shop Tuesdays for entrepreneurs, employees of startups, and self-employed individuals. These events provide an opportunity to network with other self-starters in the community and gain practical knowledge in the world of entrepreneurship. Each session will feature a combination of networking activities, open discussion, and speakers on topics ranging from market research to work/life balance to policy changes that affect entrepreneurs.
